मग संजयो म्हणे रायातें I आइकें तो पार्थु तेथें I शोकाकुल रुदनातें I करीत असे II 1 II
तें कुळ देखोनि समस्त I स्नेह उपनलें अद्भुत I तेणें द्रवलें असे चित्त I कवणेपरी II 2 II
जैसें लवण जळें झळंबलें I ना तरी अभ्र वातें हाले I तैसें सधीर परी विरमलें I हृदय तयांचे II 3 II
म्हणोनि कृपा आकळिला I दिसतसे अति कोमाइला I जैसा कर्दमीं रुपला I राजहंसु II 4 II
तयापरी तो पांडुकुमरु I महामोहें अति जर्जरु I तें देखोनी श्रीशार्ङ्गधरु I काय बोले II 5 II
"Listen O'King said Sanjay to Dhrutarashtra, in this way on the battlefield Kurukshetra the deeply saddened Arjun was moved to tears. His brave heart became as feeble as the set of clouds scattered by the wind. The sorrow absorbed him as completely as the salt dissolved in water. He looked as listless as the flamingo stuck in the mud. Seeing Arjun's despair and confusion on the battlefield Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna said:"
म्हणे अर्जुना आधीं पाहीं I हें उचित काय इये ठायीं I तूं कवण हें कायी I करीत आहासी II 6 II
तुज सांगें काय झालें I कवण उणें आलें I करितां काय ठेलें I खेदु कायिसा II 7 II
तूं अनुचिता चित्त नेदिसी I धीरु कंहीं न संडिसी I तुझिया नामें अपयशीं I दिशा लंघिजे II 8 II
तूं शूरवृत्तीचा ठावो I क्षत्रियांमाजी रावो I तुझिया लाठेपणाचा आवो I तिहीं लोकीं II 9 II
तुवां संग्रामीं हरु जिंकिला I निवातकवचांचा ठावो फेडिला I पवाडा तुवां केला I गंधर्वांसी II 10 II
पाहतां तुझेनि पाडें I दिसे त्रैलोक्यही थोकडें I ऐसें पुरुषत्व चोखडें I पार्था तुझें II 11 II
तों तूं किं आजी एथें I सांडूनिया वीरवृत्तीतें I अधोमुख रुदनातें I करीतु आहासी II 12 II
विचारीं तूं अर्जुनु I कीं कारुण्यें किजसी दीनु I सांग पां अंधकारें भानुं I ग्रासिला आथी II 13 II
ना तरी पवनु मेघासि बिहे I कीं अमृतासि मरण आहे I पाहे पां इंधनचि गिळोनि जाये I पावकातें II 14 II
कीं लवणेचिं जळ विरे I संसर्गे काळकूट मरे I सांग पां महाफणी दुर्दुरें I गिळिजे कायी II 15 II
सिंहासि झोंबे कोल्हा I ऐसा अपाडु आथी कें जाहला I परी तो त्वां साच केला I आजि एथ II 16 II
म्हणोनि अझुनी अर्जुना I झणें चित्तदेसी या हीना I वेगीं धीर करूनियां मना I सावधु होईं II 17 II
सांडीं हें मूर्खपण I उठीं घे धनुष्यबाण I संग्रामीं हें कवण I कारुण्य तुझें II 18 II
हां गा तूं जाणता I तरी नविचारिसी कां आतां I सांगें जुंझावेळे सदयता I उचित कायी II 19 II
हें असतिये कीर्तीसी नाशु I आणि पारत्रिकासि अपभ्रंशु I म्हणे जगन्निवासु I अर्जुनातें II 20 II
"Addressing Arjun Lord Krishna said, first of all find out whether what you are saying and what you are doing is appropriate to your presence here on the battlefield Kurukshetra. What has happened to you today? What is this grief you are reiterating again and again? What exactly are you missing that is pulling you back from the task in hand? It is strange to me because what I know of you is that you are a man of tremendous resolve. The failure flees as soon as your name is spoken aloud. You are a warrior par excellence, a leading among all Kshatriyas' and reknowned in all the three worlds for great bravery. You defeated Lord Shiva in a duel and also wiped out the group of daityas' Nivatkavachas. You were lauded by the Gandharvas' too. Your impeccable bravery on the battlefield makes even the glory of the three worlds appear dull. It is so unusual that the same mighty Arjun, unlike a true warrior, is sitting dejected on the battlefield with tears rolling down his eyes. Ask yourself said Lord Krishna to Arjun, is your shallow thinking worth of this dilemma? Because it is as unthinkable as the darkness clouding the Sun Or the wind is afraid of the clouds or Amrut, the nectar of immortality succumbing to death or wood itself swallowing the fire or salt causing the water to dissolve instead of other way round or the most deadly poison Kalkut is put to death by the touch of another poison or a frog swallowing a python. Lord Krishna asked, have you ever seen a fox challenging a lion? As improbable as this is your giving up today on this battlefield. Yet you have made this miracle happen. It's high time you save your mind from becoming slave to the dejection and regain your poise at the earliest. So get back and pick up your Gandiv bow said Lord Krishna to Arjun. This compassion that is tormenting your mind so much has no place on the battlefield. You are a conscious man, awake, aware, cognizant, and sensible. Then what is holding you back? A soft heart doesn't suit a warrior on the battlefront, because by doing so not only the earned glory will be lost but it will also seriously damage the prospect of realizing the true meaning of this rare human birth."
