"Some say the body is the possession of Jeev, the individual soul. The vital life force (Pran) is the tenant of the land to whom the body field is given for farming. The four Pranas Apan, Vyan, Saman, Udan are the four brothers in the Pran household that work hard day and night as farm laborers under the mind as the farm supervisor. Harnessing the ten indriyas as bullocks to the plow (Five Dnyanendriyas eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin and Five Karmendriyas hands, feet, mouth/speech, genitals, anus) even at the least favourable time such as new moon dawn as well, the mind tills the land of the sense gratification incessantly. The mind fails in his duty by sowing the seed of ignorance, fertilizing it with wrong doings. It yields bumper harvest of sins. This subjects the Jeev to the sufferings of countless births. But instead of doing this by performing the duty diligently if one sows the seed of righteousness, then living the life of moral excellence one enjoys bliss for countless births ahead. Some however differ from this thought. They say, Jeev is but a lone traveller and Kshetra, the body is one of the places where he camps temporarily. While he rests, Pran, the vital life force stands guard as a service provider offering essential services, here the protection of Kshetra or his body."
