"Taking Vedas as the basis, the ignorant driven by Durbuddhi with their inability to think with reason are often proponents of rituals. Everything they do is for some form of material gain, keeping their eye on the returns. For them taking birth and performing rituals is exclusively for the purpose of enjoying the pleasures of heaven. It is Sakam Karma motivated by selfish expectations and the desire to receive something in return. They perform the religious rituals meticulously giving careful attention to detail. But all this is with the expectation and motivation that it will be returned to their life in some form of good. And this is where things go wrong and they fail. Engrossed in the rituals they forget that rituals are only the means, not the end in itself. God Realization for which the rituals are performed is forgotten. Just like making a heap of camphor and setting it on fire when it is known that burning camphor leaves no trace or mixing the deadly poison Kalkut in the delicious food or having found a pot of divine nectar Amrut, kicking it away and turning it upside down, the people who are unable to act with reason do Sakam Karma and lose everything in the end. It is their ignorance that blinds them to the true purpose of the merit they earn doing good deeds. To waste the merit earned by good deeds for enjoying the worldly pleasures is like cooking delicious food, putting your heart into it, but then selling it for price. And therefore Arjun, said Lord Krishna the people driven by Durbuddhi are those who remain engrossed in merely reading the Vedas instead of finding what they mean to convey."
