"While the body is subjected to different postures, on inside there is a profound impact on the Manovrutti or the state of mind too.
Manovrutti is not just about the surface level of thinking but also encompasses the deeper currents of our emotions, desires, and attachments. They start losing their hold. The mind gets detached from the body. There is a shift in awareness where one becomes less attached to physical sensations and more connected to the inner Self. The yogi has no recollection of hunger, sleep etc. Lord Krishna said to Arjun, the Apan Vayu is naturally downward-moving. But by contracting the muscles of the pelvic floor, Mula Bandha helps to channel Apan Vayu upwards. As it moves upwards it swells. Due to its confinement, the rumbling begins. Agitated it starts striking the Manipur Chakra also known as Solar Plexus Chakra situated just below the ribs and above the navel. As it's rage subsides, it sweeps off the inside, thus thoroughly flushing out all the filth that has been accumulating over the years since childhood. Since there is no way for the Apan vayu to turn inward, it enters the intestines causing uproar of kafa and pitta. This roaring Apan vayu brings about tremendous upheavals in the Sapta Dhatu Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa, Meda, Asthi, Majja and Shukra, destroys the mountains of fats and uproots even the muscle held by the bones. It loosens the organs and disturbs even the nadi that controls Vayu (vital air) within the body. These upheavals are disturbing to an aspirant who follows this yogic practice. However he should not fear. Because while the Apan vayu is responsible for many a disturbance, it clears it as well."
