"Lord Krishna said, the soul never dies. It is the body which dies. The eternal soul leaves one body and takes another. However the slave to senses for whom the sense-life -- the striving for physical pleasures-- is everything fails to understand this. The senses pull him in all directions creating confusion and turmoil. The sense gratification or the pleasure or satisfaction that comes from experiencing the world through the senses, such as taste, touch, sight, smell, and hearing impacts the mind profoundly, evoking pleasure or pain. Both are fleeting or temporary. For example saying unkind things about someone and praise are both words, yet hearing the first evokes hatred and hearing the later evokes affection.
Soft" and "Hard" are sensations that are perceived through the sense of touch. However "Soft" has a pleasing touch while "Hard" feels rough.
Seeing something very bad evokes unpleasant feeling while seeing
beautiful things, something aesthetically pleasing, like a stunning sunset, a work of art brings a sense of joy and wonder, often leading to feelings of appreciation, calmness, and happiness.
Bad odour and Fragrance are both smells, yet the bad odour arouses intense disgust while the fragrance brings the feel good feeling.
Bitter and Sweet are both tastes, yet bitter taste is unpleasant while sweet taste is pleasurable.
All in all said Lord Krishna to Arjun, the pleasures that arise from contact between the senses and their objects are in truth the sources of all suffering. Just like the contact between the senses and the sense objects gives the mind the experience of heat and cold, so are joy and sorrow. The very nature of the senses is such that without them nothing else pleases. We are allured by sense objects, which are like mirages. It seems real but is actually false just like seeing in dream Airavat, the divine white elephant that carries god Indra, the king of the gods. After waking up, it never happened. And therefore beware of the senses cautioned Lord Krishna to Arjun and urged him to keep them at bay."
