"The equilibrium of these 8 elements is My "Para-Prakruti" said Lord Krishna to Arjun. It is the spiritual essence of living beings that is the source of Consciousness, distinct from the material nature. It is called Jeev (individual soul). It brings matter to life.
"Para Prakruti" represents the higher, divine, or unified consciousness.
"Apara Prakruti" represents the lower, material nature, composed of the three gunas (Sattwa, Rajas, and Tamas).
As the Jeev interacts with the three gunas', it leads to sorrow, attachment etc. The comprehension of the intellect is because of the proximity of "Para Prakruti".
It is the source of all conscious existence."
