Two distinctive yet close knit bumps on the forehead of Lord Ganesh are but two sub schools of Vedanta, Dvait or Dualist and Advait (monism) non dualism.
In Dvait school of thought Bramha is identified with Ishvar. Atma is identified with Jiva. Individual sees oneself as a separate entity from God.
The Advait school of thought says that Jiva, Jagat and Ishvar are the same. It has more to do with the subjective nature of God. All that is objective are the creation of Maya or illusion. According to Advait the ultimate truth is Brahma and each of us is Brahma because we are what Brahma just "appears to be."
Just like the two distinctive bumps are but the parts of the forehead of Lord Ganesh, He 'Lord Ganesh' appears to be what one seeks Him. For Dualist, Lord Ganesh has human attributes. He is powerful. He is merciful. He is Almighty. He can be prayed. He can be approached. He can be loved. He loves in return.
For Advait, He is the Brahma, the only reality which is devoid of any kind of internal or external differences.
Summing up each of the attributes of Lord Ganesh are as distinctive as an intensely red Precious Coral gemstone."
