"Chitta is the foundational "mind-stuff" or subconscious repository of all memories, impressions, and data encompassing the mind and intellect. While mind and intellect are active faculties for thinking and judging, Chitta is the deeper, the very "bed" holding all mental activity connecting to the source of Creation.
Lord Krishna said to Arjun, if you cannot handover Chitta to Me completely, then try to do it at least for a moment of the eight prahars, a 24 hour day. Then for all such moments at which the Chitta steadies on Me, there will be a distaste towards the senses. When this happens then just like with the beginning of Sharad rutu right after the rainy season, the water level in the rivers start falling, the Chitta engrossed in the worldly attachments move out of its grip. Just like after the Full Moon, the moon enters it's waning phase meaning the illumination decreases each night until it becomes a New Moon. Similarly will be your transition away from the sense gratification as the Chitta slowly enters into Me ultimately merging into Me. This is known as Abhyas Yoga. It is the consistent, devoted effort to anchor one's entire being, especially the mind, onto the Divine amidst worldly activities. Abhyas emphasizes the necessity of continuous, systematic practice over a long time, without interruption. It is not about perfection, but about the consistent act of showing up and putting in the effort. Not only the seemingly impossible tasks such as moving in the outer space, taming tigers, snakes, staying alive despite swallowing deadly poison or walk on the sea water's surface can be done, but it also brings the comprehension of Vedas within reach. And therefore use Abhyas Yoga to merge into Me."
